History of Bangladesh's Independence Day
In 1947, British India was formed as 'Dominion of Pakistan', which had two distinct regions in the northwest and north-east of India. In 1952, with the first signs of autonomy for East Pakistan, the first region was ruled from West Pakistan, which hated between two regions.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Bengali-based Awami League achieved a majority in the 1970 general elections, but the West Pakistani rule was reluctant to transfer power. On March 25th, the Pakistani soldiers used to sever increasing unrest.

As a result, on 26 March 1971 Bangladesh independence declared by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and independence started. On November 1, 1970, India supported the East Pakistan and entered the war. As a result, December 16, 1970 (marked the Victory Day holiday) for East Pakistan.
